ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ The U.S. Coast Guard says that authorities have recovered the body one person following an apparent small plane crash less than one mile from St. Petersburg's Albert Whitted Airport.
The agency said in a statement Sunday that the Coast Guard and partner agencies responded a single-seat aircraft that had reportedly crashed.
Around 3 p.m. Coast Guard Sector watch standers witnessed the crash near the sector from the airport.
A Pinellas County Sheriff's Office dive teams recovered the deceased individual, who was not identified pending notification of next-of-kind.
Crews from the Coast Guard, Pinellas County and St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Eckerd College Search and Rescue were on scene to assist.
