The soap opera at Doral City Hall cools down, for now, as City Manager Joe Carollo survives a vote of confidence.
The City Council voted 3-2 to keep Carollo around.
Mayor Luigi Boria is itching to get rid of his once-handpicked city manager after what he calls a string of abuses of power and angry outbursts. Boria's efforts come shortly after his former business partner, Juan Carlos Tovar, was charged with filing a false police report following a tense encounter with Carollo. Tovar accused Carollo of grabbing him at City Hall and making offensive remarks about his Venezuelan nationality.
Carollo insists he's done nothing wrong and accuses Boria of running a smear campaign against him. City councilmembers echoed Carollo's sentiments, wondering aloud why Boria decided to bring up the long list of Carollo's supposed offenses now instead of when they allegedly happened.
Carollo says he will get an opportunity to address Boria's allegations at a meeting next week.
