The Defense Department inks a deal with The Fisher House Foundation to restore death benefits to families of fallen soliders now on hold because of the government shutdown.
Spokesman David Coker says they are making the 100-thousand-dollar payments and will be reimbursed when the shutdown is over.
He says it is the right thing to do.
Since the shutdown began, 17 U-S servicemen and women have died including a South Florida man who leaves behind a wife and children.
