Good news for FIU, as the Governor and state cabinet pave the way it to take over the huttered Coconut Grove Playhouse.
The university is set to move its theatre program into the building in conjunction with the professional Gable Stage company. GableStage producers will work with the university developing and expanding their theatre program.
The school first has to settle all claims against the property by October 15th, or by law, it will be sold to the highest bidder. One of the biggest claimants, the City of Miami, is owed about a half a million dollars in code violations, something they've indicated they are willing to waive. However if other debts aren't taken care of, the sale will move forward.
