Storm Ready: Hurricane Shelter Space Adequate In South Florida
Posted Monday, June 2nd 2014 @ 2pm

Some counties across the state don't have enough shelter space in the event of a massive hurricane evacuation.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management report on hurricane shelters determined that Southwest Florida counties had the biggest space issue, with Lee and Collier Counties showing the biggest deficits.

South Florida counties, though, seem to be well prepared for the number of people projected to seek shelter in the event of a massive evacuation for a Category 4 or 5 hurricane.

The numbers released by the state's emergency management office are based on worst-case scenarios.
