Doctors Recommend Flu Shots After Two Florida Deaths

Its flu season, and and health care officials are urging South Florida residents to get their shot this season

The Florida Department of Health has confirmed two pediatric deaths from the flu already this season.

Dr. Deborah Ann Mulligan is the Director of the Institute for Health Policy at Nova Southeastern University, and says one strain is particularly dangerous.

"Right now, influenza AH-3 is the most common sub-type reported," Mulligan says.

"Seasons in which this sub-type dominates, have been associated with more severe illness."

She says the good news is AH-3 is one of the strains combated in this year's vaccine.

Dr. Mulligan recommends everyone over 6 months old gets a flu shot.

Flu season runs through May.
