National Pet Day is a day to show our pets a little extra love and attention. It’s also a day to raise awareness of animal welfare. Cherie Wachter, spokesperson for the Broward Humane society says that there are many cats and dogs waiting to be adopted. She also encourages people to volunteer in shelters, “We are always looking for volunteers, especially with our Adoption Ambassador Program. Those are volunteers who take pets into their home and network with their friends or co-workers to help them find their forever home.” She adds that all shelters are in need of monetary donations or pet supplies.
