Miami-Dade County Leaders Speaking Out Against Growing Repression in Venezuela

As Venezuelans continue to protest against the increasingly embattled socialist administration of President Nicolas Maduro, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose 'Pepe' Diaz called on local officials to stand in solidarity with the people of Venezuela Monday at the City of Doral Government Center.

"I denounce Maduro the dictator and his regime for using violence against his own people.  I denounce Maduro the dictator and his regime for holding political prisoners," said Commissioner Diaz.

The commissioner says he plans on sponsoring a resolution urging the federal government to take action to help restore democracy and human rights in Venezuela.

Commissioner Diaz's district includes Doral, which is home to the largest concentration of Venezuelans in the United States.
