Gov. Scott Vetoes Higher Education Bill

Governor Rick Scot is not listening to the pleas of teachers and administrators and is signing a controversial education bill.

On Wednesday, Scott vetoed a higher education bill he said would “impede” progress at state colleges by boosting Florida’s universities at the expense of community-based schools. The bill was one of the top priorities of Senate President Joe Negron during the 2017 session, who has made improving the State University System a cornerstone of his term as Senate President.

Thursday, Scott will put his name on HB 7069 in Orlando... saying it increases school choice options.

The plan sends public school money to privately run charter schools.  It eliminates some standardized testing and requires elementary school recess.
