It's good to be the king of a business empire... Especially as you successfully campaign to become the President of the United States. Donald Trump's properties in South Florida have been particularly profitable lately.
Financial disclosures released by the Office of Government Ethics show that President Trump may not be running his company since moving into the Oval Office, but he is definitely seeing increased income since his time on the trail that has continued after taking the oath of office.
The President's income from Trump National Doral was listed at $132 million in 2016, up from $49 million the year before. His golf courses in Palm Beach County are also seeing a windfall from his candidacy. Both Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach and Trump National in Jupiter saw increases of about 50% from 2015 to 2016, with additional gains seen in 2017.
The Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, which Trump's team has dubbed "The Winter White House" and a site he used to host Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping, may have seen the biggest jump in income. After generating $16 million for Trump in 2015, the then-candidate's income from the club almost doubled to $30 million in 2016 and provided him with $37 million in 2017.
Since the weather in the northeast has warmed in the late spring and summer, Trump is using his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey as a weekend retreat away from Washington. That club, which is set to host the U.S. Women's Open in July and the PGA Championship in 2022, generated almost $20 million in income for the President, who also used the venue during the transition period.
One of the President's newest properties, the Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C. is already doing very well for the man who now lives and works down the street. The luxury hotel which opened in September made Trump $19.7 through mid-April. Trump also makes money on books royalties, The Miss Universe Pageant and a Screen Actors Guild pension from his work on the NBC show The Apprentice.
