Mayors Come to Miami Beach This Weekend

Mayors from over 250 cities will be in Miami Beach for the 85th Annual Conference of Mayors this weekend.

Mayors will have days packed with meetings on topics affecting cities around country.  City of Miami Beach Mayor Phillip Levine says the work mayors do is crucial, especially under the political environment there is today.

"One of the big challenges mayors are having is a lot of state capitols are trying to take control from local municipalities.  The mayors feel like I do, that we know best on the local level what's right for our own residents.  A big discussion [during the conference] will be local control," said Mayor Levine.

He says other big discussions will be climate change, infrastructure, the opiate epidemic and possibly medical marijuana.

Evening activities are planned for the mayors to show off all Miami Beach has to offer.
