FIU Student Tragically Killed In Weekend Car Accident Near Campus

Friends, family, students and staff are mourning the tragic loss of an FIU student this Monday. 

"This tragedy reminds us how precious and fragile life is." That's what Florida International University said in a tweet announcing the death of a freshman student.  

Alexis Dale, 18, was struck and killed by a car early Sundayas she crossed Southwest Eighth Street near the FIU campus.

The crash happened near where FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg was welcoming new students at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus at 11200 SW Eighth St.

Dale's Facebook account said she was born in Denver and raised in San Diego. She was interested in information technology. 

The Florida Highway Patrol was investigating the crash. 

Students personally affected by Alexis' death are urged to contact school counselors.
