Miami-Dade Prison Guard Fired, Accused Of Raping Inmate

A Miami-Dade prison sergeant is finding himself on the opposite side of the jail cell after being accused of raping an inmate.

Prosecutors released an arrest report Monday saying the jailer at Homestead Correctional Institute claimed he never attacked the inmate and only entered a utility room with her to find her "contraband stash."

The alleged victim says the guard began fondling her inside her cell on May 18 before asking her to meet him in a closet where she was attacked.

The report says Miami-Dade police began investigating after she reported the incident to a superior of 50-year-old Trevor Hampton. The Florida Department of Corrections says it's moving to fire Hampton and that he's been removed from contact with inmates

Hampton was arrested Friday.

He is now facing a charge of sexual battery by a corrections officer.
