Tropical Storm Irma Forms Over The Atlantic Ocean

Tropical Storm Irma has formed in the eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean, and sits about 420 miles to the west of the Cape Verde Islands, according to an 11 a.m. advisory by Miami's National Hurricane Center.

Forecasters are not expecting any land impacts over the next five days, but will continue track its path.

The storm has sustained winds of 50 miles per hour.

The tropical system will likely strengthen over the next several days as it continues moving westbound at about 13 mph.

The Hurricane Center says Irma could become a hurricane on Friday.
