FIU Meets Head-To-Head With UCF Thursday Night To Kick Off Football Season

Florida International University kicks off the 2017 football season Thursday night, as the Panthers meet the University of Central Florida Knights on the field in Orlando.

The game kicks off at Spectrum Stadium at 6 p.m.

For FIU tonight, head coach Butch Davis returns to the sidelines. Davis, who was named head coach of the Panthers in 2016, returns to the field for the first time since the 2010 season when he was the head coach at North Carolina. Davis spent seven seasons in Chapel Hill with the Tar Heels.

Davis is also the former head coach of the University of Miami.

UCF begins its second season under head coach Scott Frost tonight. The Knights bounced back from a winless 2015 to go six and seven last year.

Thursday marks the sixth meeting between FIU and UCF, dating back to the 2011 season.

The Knights hold a slight 3-2 all-time series lead.

Thursday is the Panthers' third trip to Orlando to face UCF. FIU defeated the Knights, 15-14, on Sept. 3, 2015 in its last trip to Spectrum Stadium.
