Florida Reopens Price-Gauging Hotline Amid Hurricane Irma Threat

With Florida under a state of emergency in response to Hurricane Irma, the state's price-gouging hotline has been reactivated.

Attorney General Pam Bondi activated the hotline Monday night, saying Floridians preparing for Irma should not be inhibited by unlawful price increases on needed supplies.

Violators of the price gouging statute are subject to civil penalties of $1,000 per violation and up to a total of $25,000 for multiple violations committed in a single 24-hour period.

Bondi urges anyone who suspects price gouging to report it to her office by calling 866-9-NO-SCAM.
