Police: Three Recent Murders In Tampa Are Linked

Over the past 14 days, three unsolved murders have shaken the Tampa area. Now, police are saying that the unexplained slayings are connected.

Police have not been able to identify a suspect or motive, but said the killings are believed to be linked to each other.

But Police Chief Brian Dugan has declined to describe the incidents as the work of a serial killer, citing not enough evidence.

The victims include:

  • 22-year-old college student Benjamin Mitchell
    • Shot dead while waiting for a bus on Oct. 9
  • 32-year-old sign language teacher Monica Hoffa
    • Shot on Oct. 11
  • 20-year-old Anthony Naiboa
    • Killed on Oct. 19
    • His body was found 300 yards from Mitchell's

Authorities say the entire community remains on alert.

Local leader Stan Lasater says that the area has always had small, petty crimes, but that something of this magnitude has really shaken the community
