Homeless Man Arrested After Nude Woman In Brickell Claims Rape

A homeless man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the rape of a woman who was found naked in Brickell.

The rape was reported last Thursday in the area of 1450 S. Miami Ave.

The victim was allegedly sleeping inside her Volkswagen Jetta with the doors unlocked when 41-year-old Tony Martehidalgo got into the passenger side of the vehicle and choked the victim.

Police said Martehidalgo then pulled the victim to the back seat and raped her.

Authorities said he then forced her to perform oral sex on him and held down her arms when she struggled with him.

The victim allegedly escaped through the trunk of her car after Martehidalgo told her to turn around.

Police said she ran for help while completely nude and a good Samaritan allowed her to get into his vehicle until he could flag down an officer for help.

Detectives said a witness claimed to see a man, later identified as Martehidalgo, running out of the victim's car from the passenger side after the incident.

Authorities said he refused to provide a DNA swab, but his fingerprints matched a fingerprint found on the passenger side of the victim's car.

The victim cried when she was shown a photo of the suspect and she told police, "I know that's the guy that raped me. I remember the beard," authorities said.

Martehidalgo was arrested on charges of sexual battery, sexual battery causing serious personal injury, burglary and false imprisonment.
