Anheuser-Busch is sending barley seeds into space.
Earlier this year, Budweiser announced its goal to be the first beer on Mars – offering the red planet the same enjoyments provided here on earth -- fresh beer! And while socializing on Mars might be in the near-distant future, Budweiser is taking steps now to better understand how its ingredients react in microgravity environments.
The brewer is launching the seeds Dec. 4 onboard a SpaceX supply mission to the International Space Station.
The seedlings will be in orbit for approximately one month, before being brought back down to earth for Budweiser’s innovation team to analyze.
In the meantime, the company is hoping to glean insights into barley production here on Earth.
