Family Escapes, Pets Rescued By Firefighters From Blaze At Miami Home

Firefighters aided a couple and their pets to safety from their burning home in Miami early Monday.

Authorities were called to a fire at a home on Northwest 52nd Street just before 3:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, the couple had gotten out of the home safely, but their pets were still inside.

Firefighters rescued a cat and two dogs from the fire.

The fire was contained before it could spread to neighboring homes, but authorities say a neighbor's house was evacuated as a precaution because of the amount of smoke traveling in that direction.

The residents told firefighters they were awakened by their smoke detector and saw the fire in a bedroom. They are now staying with family members.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
