You Won't Find Cosmo At The Walmart Checkout Anymore

Walmart has made a "business decision" to remove Cosmopolitan magazine from its checkout lines, according a statement released Tuesday night.

One advocacy group is calling the move a victory against sexual exploitation. The National Center on Sexual Exploitation said Walmart made the decision following conversations with the anti-pornography organization.

Cosmopolitan, owned by Hearst Communications, describes itself as a "bible for fun, fearless females that reaches more than 18 million readers a month." The magazine has faced criticism over the years for pairing its racy content with young Hollywood starlets on its covers.

Addressing those concerns, Walmart said it "will continue to offer Cosmopolitan to customers that wish to purchase the magazine, but it will no longer be located in the checkout aisles."

The National Center on Sexual Exploitation, which changed its name from Morality In Media in 2015, works to highlight the negative effects of pornography, which it calls a "public health crisis."
