Senator Marco Rubio is calling on the Small Business Administration to open a Business Recovery Center to help companies hurt by the algae blooms from Lake Okeechobee.
In a letter to the SBA administrator, Rubio said Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Lee, and Hendry counties rely on clean water to bring tourists to the area and they are now being hurt by poor conditions.
It's not an unprecedented request.
The SBA opened similar disaster offices during the last algae outbreak of 2016.
