A New York man died while scuba diving off the coast of Pompano Beach over the weekend, authorities said.
Broward County Sheriff's Office officials said Paul Elmore, 67, of Lancaster, New York, was exploring near the Hillsboro inlet with South Florida Diving Headquarters around 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
That's when, according to authorities, Elmore lost consciousness.
Fellow divers pulled the man from the water and rendered first aid, officials said. Paramedics then rushed Elmore to Broward Health North. He was pronounced dead of his injuries.
Broward County's Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services will determine the cause of death.
