FL Has One Of The Highest Percentages Of Young, Low-Income Parents In U.S.

Did you know that more than 180,000 children in Florida live with parents who are between the ages of 18 and 24-years-old?

On top of that, nearly 80-percent are in low-income households.

Laura Speer of the Annie E. Casey Foundation says that Florida's percentage of young and low-income parents is one of the highest in the country.

She says their new report, Opening Doors For Young Parents, focuses on the challenges faced by young families.

This report reminds policymakers and child advocates of the barriers that young families face. It examines national and state-level trends — highlighting areas of opportunity and concern — and then shares potential solutions that can help these families thrive.
