Governor Unveils Plans to Improve Florida Water

An executive order signed by Governor Ron DeSantis includes major reforms to protect Florida's waterways.

The order includes $2.5-billion-dollars for the protection of water resources and creates a Blue-Green Algae Task force to look at ways to reduce algae blooms in the next five years.

The order also instructs the Water Management District to immediately start the next phase of the Everglades Agricultural Area Storage Reservoir Project.

The Office of Environmental Accountability and Transparency and a new Chief Science Officer are also created by the order.

The governor, his wife, and the lieutenant governor traveled to Bonita Springs, Sarasota, and Stuart to make today's announcement.  All three areas have been hit hard by algae blooms or red tide.
