Sunscreen Ban Meant to Save Coral Reefs

Key West is a step closer to banning sunscreen that could be killing coral reefs.

The commission unanimously passed an ordinance banning sunscreens that contain oxybenzone and octinoxate.

There's increasing scientific evidence that the two chemicals wash off swimmers and bleach or kill coral.

A similar law has already been adopted in Hawaii.

The ordinance needs to pass a second vote on February 5th to become law in the city.
