The Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission Meeting Today & Tomorrow

School safety under the microscope in Sunrise as the Majory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission meets at the BB&T Center for the next two days. This marks the first time the commission has met since delivering its final report to the governor and legislature back in December. Ryan Petty, who lost his daughter Alaina, says they will discuss what recommendations have been implemented since because some school districts still haven't complied with the school safety law passed after the massacre. The commission will also go over whether or not active-shooter training has improved at the Broward Sheriff's Office, if school districts are still under reporting on-campus crime and if Broward has fixed its emergency radio problems. They will also discuss how the death notifications were given at the Coral Springs Mariott Heron Bay. Parents say there is no right way to do this, but it was definitely handled the wrong way. The commission's meeting ends at 5 p.m. tonight, at 6 p.m. there will be a Town Hall on gun violence hosted by Congressman Eric Swalwell. The BB&T Center is located at 1 Panther Parkway|Sunrise, Florida 33323. If you have any questions you can call 954.835.7000.
