Political Update; Where News And Perceptions Meet Reality

In this week's reality check, we take a look at the public's opinion of the president and our view of the direction of the country.

  • Trump's lowest rating: 37% approval (8/4/17)
  • Trump highest approval rating: 46% approval (9/19/19)
  • Trump's current rating: 46% approval

As the 2020 Democrats continue to pursue impeachment against President Trump, and now Brett Kavanaugh, the average American continues to benefit from record low minority unemployment, record-high wages and record opportunity in the workforce. Not to mention stocks are essentially sitting at record highs leading to record high retirement account balances. That’s reflected in President Trump’s average approval rating this week. It’s a new record high for his administration at 46%. We're about thirteen months away from the next election, President Trump is now appealing to more potential voters that supported him on Election Day 2016.

It’s been the case throughout his term thus far, that the more informed and engaged someone is politically, the more likely they are to approve President Trump. That remains the case once again this week.

  • Adult only samples averaged: N/A
  • Registered voters: 44%
  • Likely voters: 51%

What you never hear reported are the ratings of the Democratic leaders opposing him. Let’s just say they need a huge push of support to catch President Trump’s approval ratings. Pelosi is at 34% and Schumer comes in at 27%. Even about half of Democrats don’t approve of those two.

Looking at the direction of the country this week, we stand at 38%. Overall, we’re 8% collectively more optimistic than we were during the Obama administration.
