An audit of Florida’s virtual school by Ernst & Young conducted on behalf of the Florida Department of Education revealed systemic issues. Recommended changes for the school, which is used by over 200,000 Florida students annually, include a new independent board that would have oversight responsibilities, an inspector general and a firm code of ethics.

Police in Hallandale Beach obtained a search warrant for a murder suspect’s Alexa. Earlier this year an Alexa search warrant in Arkansas helped produce evidence in a case. This is the first known instance within Florida. This case also tests the extent of recording monitored by Amazon’s smart speakers.

Florida’s Office of Public Counsel is battling the Florida Public Service Commission’s decision to allow costs from the under-grounding of powerlines to be automatically surcharged to customers. Two legal challenges are set for this week with a hearing Tuesday and possibly Thursday.

Lastly, while more New Yorkers relocated to Florida than any other state over the past year, on a percentage basis the fastest growth came from Connecticut as 63% more residents relocated from Connecticut to Florida than the prior year.
