MDPD Director Discusses Recent Metromover Attacks

A homeless man is facing robbery and aggravated battery charges after he's accused of attacking an elderly man on the Metromover.

Miami-Dade police detectives say Robert Ribbs walked up to the 73-year-old who was just sitting on the train and repeatedly punched and kicked him.

The victim had to be hospitalized.

A 74-year-old man was attacked Sunday on the Metromover, and Miami-Dade Police Director Freddy Ramirez yesterday released a surveillance image of a possible suspect.

The beating was the second this month on the Metromover, and Ramirez says while the attacks aren't related, they're deeply concerning.

Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina announced yesterday additional resources will be deployed throughout the city's portion of the Metrorail/Metromover system.

These resources will include uniformed and undercover officers.

Meanwhile, the son of the victim in Sunday's attack tells Local 10 News his father is due for surgery today.
