Broward Health's COVID Vaccine Program At Capacity; JMH's Prepares To Begin

South Florida seniors are clamoring to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

The phone has been ringing off the hook at Broward Health, where the first shots are being given this afternoon to any person 65-years-old and over, EMS personnel, and medical officials and staff.

Medical Director of Ambulatory Services' Dr. Aldo Calvo says the goal is to administer ten to 20 an hour.

The program is so popular that it's been booked through February and no more appointments are being scheduled at this time.

Broward County will offer drive-through vaccination sites for seniors beginning on Sunday.

However, it is also having problems.

In Miami-Dade, Jackson Health System is beginning to offer doses of its latest shipment of the vaccine to more than 10,000 senior ongoing patients.

This afternoon senior celebrities - music producer Emilio Estefan and Dolphins legend Nat Moore - will get their first doses.

Then next week, it anticipates opening an online platform where any County resident, at least 65, can request a call-back to scheduled their appointments.
