Florida News That Impact You – February 10th, 2021

Some of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida include a positive trend of fewer COVID cases in Florida. On Tuesday, 7,023 new cases were reported by the Florida Department of Health. That total brought the weekly average trend for cases to the lowest level since November 19th.

Meanwhile, Florida continues to struggle to obtain first vaccine doses as just 14,608 first doses were administered on Monday according to the most recent vaccine report from the FDOH. Florida has now vaccinated more Floridians with second doses, which they already had on hand, than first doses for ten consecutive days.

Governor DeSantis announced the official rollout of vaccinations at Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart pharmacies as part of a new federal initiative which commences Thursday. Saying, that 119 stores will receive 210 vaccines to start. Additionally, 43 Winn-Dixie locations will receive an unspecified number of vaccines.

DeSantis also commented on when Florida’s Phase 1 vaccination plan will be expanded beyond those 65+ and frontline healthcare workers. He said, "We will move on when we have done right by the seniors. Once we start to see some softening in the demand then we need to get the footprint wider."
