As a lifelong advocate of law enforcement, I take no joy in reporting on or covering failures. Unfortunately, it’s increasingly necessary. The Uvalde school shooting was tragic for so many reasons, but as I said in the immediate aftermath... (there’s a) Credibility crisis in Uvalde that sounds all too familiar in South Florida. Shots fired in a parking lot. An unlocked door. Multiple law enforcement agencies responding but none seemingly taking command. What was depicted in Texas yesterday sounded all too similar to the failures at Stoneman Douglas. That’s troubling for all of the obvious reasons. What’s also troubling is the credibility crisis of how dramatically the narrative changed from one day to the next. It’s not at all unusual for initial reports of breaking news to change once the facts are known. It is highly unusual for information to be presented as facts a day later to change as dramatically as they did yesterday. There’s a credibility crisis in Uvalde and increasingly what appears to have been stunning failures. Remarkably and sadly news of the law enforcement response only became worse from there. By the time all of the apparent facts were known I referred to it as the worst law enforcement response I’ve ever covered. While that remains true, what’s continued to play out in the wake of the Mar-a-Lago raid makes clear that what I’m now covering is the worst law enforcement response to a law enforcement response I’ve ever covered. This is our country. This is our government. They’re treating us like we’re idiots and there’s no doubt we’re being lied to. The only question is to what extent and about what specifically. As I pointed out yesterday, it’s a farce to think that something so dire to national security as to require the response we witnessed, would have led to a warrant execution timeline of two weeks at only specific hours daily or that the FBI would have waited for 60 hours to carry out their search after the warrant was issued. But it’s equally a farce to believe, as the Biden Administration is telling us, that President Biden – who is briefed on national intelligence matters daily – wouldn't have even been briefed on this situation in advance. We’re told the president literally found out about this the way the rest of us did (when Trump announced it on Truth Social and it was reported on). So, which is it? Is it the case that the raid was necessary in the name of national security, or is it the case that intelligence officials don’t brief the president on matters of national security? This is either the worst law enforcement response to a national security matter in American history, or the this is the worst law enforcement response, to a law enforcement response in American history.
